FUTURE DESIGN – KARLSRUHE, GERMANY

The Bureau of Culture Karlsruhe is the central subsidy and consulting agency for institutional and autonomous cultural centers, cultural protagonists, cultural clubs, as well as for the city's artists. Additionally, it develops concepts and plans events, most of which are realised in cooperation with other culture bearers. We see ourselves as a service provider, moderator, initiator and networker.

Our new partner, the Filmpalast at the ZKM gives us the opportunity to expand our BEYOND Festival. The film festival allows our visitors to gain an insight beyond the usual cinema programme; they receive an introduction to the current trends and themes of the film and television industry. To achieve this, the Filmpalast serves as an interactive platform where our visitors have the possibility to engage with VR-stations and listen to expert lectures.

The Filmpalast at the ZKM is a superlative Mulitplex. With 3.000 seats, 9 screens, a large IMAX hall of the latest generation and a large foyer with 4 restaurants and bars the cinema offers all visitors a well-rounded leisure programme. The inner and outer architecture of the building is unique in Germany and adds to the cinema experience. Due to the diverse programme offered and the high-quality equipment and facilities, the Filmpalast at the ZKM is among the top ten Multiplex cinemas in Germany.

This collaboration aims at presenting tangible, impressive and thrilling as well as future-oriented and visionary film productions to our visitors. In various lectures, experts share their expertise in order to pave the way for new ideas to arise that shape the future of film and television productions. Producers and visitors can look forward to an interplay between film, television and new technologies which is designed to stimulate and inspire.

We look forward to giving you the possibility to gain an insight into the innovation-potential of the HfG.

The  Hertz-Lab operates as a transdisciplinary research and development platform at the interface of media arts, science and society.
 
The newly established Hertz-Lab unites the Institute for Visual Media and the Institute for Music and Acoustics in order to expand the existing fields of action in close transcultural exchange with international institutes and research centers and to explore the artistic-medial possibilities of expression and design in the age of rapidly accelerated technological progress and digitization.
The Hertz-Lab focuses on artistic production and media technology research. At the laboratory, contemporary artistic-scientific concepts – for example, extended reality in AR and VR applications, artificial intelligence, immersiveness, or sensor-supported environments as well as research into artistic options in the electromagnetic field – are reflected on across media and genres, examined for artistic applicability and realized in productions.

Die Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe (HfG) wurde am 15. April 1992 eröffnet. Sie wurde gemeinsam mit dem Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie in Karlsruhe während der Jahre 1989 bis 1992 von Prof. Dr. Heinrich Klotz gegründet.

Diese einmalige Verbindung von Lehr-, Forschungs- und Ausstellungsinstitutionen entspricht der neuen künstlerischen und pädagogischen Aufgabe, die traditionellen Künste auf die Medientechnologie und die elektronischen Herstellungsverfahren zu beziehen.

Das Programm der Hochschule ist nicht auf bestimmte Tendenzen und Richtungen in der Praxis und der Theorie der Künste festgelegt. Pluralistische Offenheit ist die Basis des Lernens und Lehrens an der Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe.

Im Rahmen einer umfassenden Hochschul-Evaluation wurde das ausgezeichnete Ausbildungskonzept und das außergewöhnliche Studienangebot, mit dem sich die HfG als leistungsstarke Lehr- und Forschungsstätte etablieren konnte, bestätigt.

Gewürdigt wurden die moderne Organisationsstruktur der Hochschule, sowie die zahlreichen Kooperation mit internationalen Bildungseinrichtungen, ganz besonders aber mit dem benachbarten ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie.

Two years after the passing away of Georg Fricker, former owner of the Schauburg Cinema in Karlsruhe, the "Georg Fricker Trust" was set up (June 2010). In his lifetime the cineaste spent his entire fortune on making art and culture accessible to a broad public through the medium of film. The purpose of the trust is to advance film culture.

The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute is the initiator of the 3D Innovation Center and responsible for its set-up and organization. Innovations for the digital future are at the heart of research and development work carried out by the Heinrich Hertz Institute. The focus is on developing the principles of information technology and to demonstrate new applications for new products in partnership with the industry. The core competences of HHI are in the areas of Photonic Networks and Systems, Mobile Broadband Systems, Photonic Components and Electronic Imaging.

The Future Design Institute e.V., an association founded in 2018 and located in Ettlingen Baden-Württemberg, participates in the promotion of new emerging technologies and their dissemination and assimilation by a wide audience through the work of professionals. As its central mission, it will serve as a laboratory and observatory for the arts, science and new applications of the latest digital technologies, thus promoting the role of people in anticipating social change and making democratically accessible the technologies of the future to people around the world.

The 3IT Berlin offers the worldwide unique opportunity of working together in a pre-competitive environment to develop a new industry sector. A platform of some 600 m2 is open to all players as a place where they can build contacts, test products and systems and make joint presentations to a variety of diverse target audiences. New synergies are generated by the availability of a profusion of know how covering the whole 3D system chain – from product development, marketing and sales to positioning in the market and the public eye.

Planet Film- und Fernsehproduktion GmH was founded in 2001 by Gülsel Özkan and Ludger Pfanz in Ettlingen near Karlsruhe, Germany. After ten years of working together on the production of numerous prize-winning documentary films and TV features, they began to produce feature films as well in 2002.

In their work they mainly focus on social, environmental, multicultural and intercultural issues for the European and international markets.

We develop innovative 3D HD-systems for future markets. We support our customers at the highest level with many years of production experience. We offer solutions in the areas of entertainment, advertising, documentation, research & development, industry and medicine.

Das Filmboard Karlsruhe e. V. ist ein Filmemachernetzwerk mit Sitz im Kreativpark Alter Schlachthof. Es unterstützt Produktionsfirmen bei der Drehortsuche und bietet einen individuellen Production Service an. Zudem ist es Träger der Karlsruher Film- und Medienakademie (fum:a), die Weiterbildungsangebote für professionelle Film- und Medienschaffende anbietet sowie in der Kinder- und Jugendbildung aktiv ist. Im Veranstaltungsbereich unterstützt der Verein verschiedene Festivals, so zum Beispiel das internationale Independent Days|Filmfest sowie weitere Filmveranstaltungen.

MediLive realises successfully 3D productions since 1994. Our experience ranges from video- and live recording to mixing and presentation techniques. With our 3D department Invistra we develop stereoscopic hard- and software, like the multiplexer A100 and an applet software which makes high quality 3D online viewing possible.

The Virtual Dimension Center (VDC) is Germany's leading network for Virtual Engineering, Virtual Reality, 3D Simulation and 3D Visualization. Since 2002 the VDC creates synergies between the network members and supports technology transfer. Approximately 100 members and partners - among them research institutions, technology suppliers, service providers, users and multipliers - are working together in the topics of Simulation, Visualisation, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) and Virtual Reality (VR) along the whole value chain Virtual Engineering. The services of the VDC include information search and processing connected to the dynamic field of Virtual Engineering, marketing and dissemination, establishing contacts on national and international level, technology transfer and the management of Funds.

Die Kavantgarde Karlsruhe ist eine Kulturinitiative, die es sich seit 2008 zur Aufgabe gemacht hat, über spannende Karlsruher Künstler und kreative Projekte zu berichten und ihnen dadurch eine Plattform zu schaffen, auf der sie sich einem breiten, interessierten Publikum vorstellen können. Das Ziel ist es dabei einzelne Gruppen und Subkulturen miteinander zu vernetzen und der Karlsruher Musik- und Kunstszene dadurch einen gesunden Nährboden für kreatives Schaffen zu liefern. Zentrale Bausteine sind dabei die redaktionellen Beiträge in Form von Video- und Textinterviews, die Künstlersteckbriefe und der Terminkalender. Für den Sommer ist darüber hinaus auch noch ein Onlineshop geplant, in dem es Tonträger, Kunsthandwerk, Design und Mode von Karlsruher Kreativschaffenden zu kaufen gibt.

Neben den umfangreichen Aktivitäten im virtuellen Raum auf ihrer Homepage, Vimeo, Youtube oder Facebook ist die Initiative in Karlsruhe vor allem auch als Veranstalter aktiv. So organisiert die Kavantgarde ein halbjährliche stattfindendes großes Sommer- und Winterfest im Substage und im Studentenhaus und veranstaltet unter anderem auch einmal im Jahr die Afterparty zum Karlsruher Galerienrundgang. Ihre gesammelten Erfahrungen und ihre Nähe zur hiesigen Szene bringt die Initiative nun auch in die offizielle Afterparty von Beyond mit ein und man darf gespannt sein, was das Ergebnis dieser vielversprechenden Kooperation sein wird.

The MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg sees itself as a competence and consulting centre for the realm of film and cinema in Baden-Württemberg. It supports culturally outstanding film productions for cinema and television.

During the 3D symposium BEYOND, Karlsruhe's renowned movie theater will be showing 3D movies.
